Seema Srivastava is an art historian, cultural theorist, teacher, designer, and Professor of Practice at DSEU. With more than 30 years of experience in teaching the following courses to under-graduates, graduates, post-graduates and corporate employees – History of Art/Design/Visual Culture; History of Graphic Design; History of Furniture Design; History of Fashion and Couture; History of Indian Costumes; Indian Iconography; Understanding Indian Heritage; Indian Culture and Heritage; Ancient Indian Architecture; Indian Sculpture; Indian Painting; Indo-Islamic Architecture; Contemporary Indian Art; Indian Art Appreciation; History of Craft Traditions; Indian Art History; Western Art History.
She has prepared, reviewed and revised the curriculum and course material on art and design related subjects for various institutes and organisations; and assisted in student recruitment and registration activities; and evaluated student’s assignments, projects and exams in the capacity of jury-member.
Srivastava has been examiner at various universities – University of Delhi, Jamia Milia Islamia Delhi, Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak, and The University of Iowa, Iowa City, USA.
She regularly hold lectures and/or courses on Indian art and architecture for ‘winterim’ students and faculty visiting India as part of credit programmes of Rutgers University; William College of Business, Xavier University, USA; The University of Iowa, USA and Virginia Commonwealth University, Doha, Qatar.
Seema has also conducted workshops for teachers at NCERT, DPS Schools, DAV Schools in “Art Education and Teaching Methodology” and for students on Design as a Career option.
Since 1985, she has been a freelance artist, illustrator involved in conceptualizing and designing advertisements, books, magazines, calendars, brochures, posters, visiting cards,logos etc. Clients include Indian Express, Mahindras, Harig Crankshat, ORG Systems, Sterling Publishers, Orient Longman, UNESCO. She has been working extensively with a reputed publishing house as designer and illustrator for books, specializing in illustrations for children
Her teaching credentials include art modules at College of Art, University of Delhi, National Museum Institute, and many other premier art, design, and architecture colleges like Pearl Academy of Fashion, School of Planning and Architecture, etc. She has conducted special courses at international universities including the University of Iowa, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Rutgers University. At UI, she teaches a module connected to Indian Art at the Winterim Program (art and architecture of India. )
She has presented a range of academic papers and lectures on diverse aspects of art.
In addition to academics, Seema leads educational trips for academicians, experts, students, and art lovers to heritage sites and places of cultural importance around India. She has also worked extensively with a reputed publishing house as a designer and illustrator for books, specializing in illustrations for children. She has designed and co-authored many books and educational CDs on art education in India for NCERT (National Council of Educational Research and Training).
