Professor Gagan Dhawan did his graduation and post-graduation from University of Delhi, India. He was the recipient of the CSIR-Catch Them Young Award twice during his post-graduation in Biomedical Science under HRD for Biomedical Research: CSIR-University Interaction Model. He joined Ranbaxy Research Laboratories (Preclinical Pharmacokinetics and Metabolism Division) as a Research Chemist. After a few months, his interest in teaching attracted him to join the Department of Biomedical Science, Acharya Narendra Dev College, University of Delhi in August 2000. He did his doctorate from CSIR-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology, Delhi.

He was awarded Universitas 21 Fellowship to pursue Master’s in Bioinformatics from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, UK. He was also invited as Visiting Faculty (August, 2011) at Laboratoire de Chimie des Polymères Organiques (LCPO), University of Bordeaux, France. He also visited Structural Biology Group, University of Edinburgh, UK (June, 2012) and Bradley Research Group, School of Chemistry, University of Edinburgh, UK (June, 2013) as Visiting Scientist.

Further, he is recipient of the prestigious UGC-Raman Award to pursue Post-Doctoral Research at Department of Chemistry, University of Massachusetts, Boston, USA for a period of 12 months (2016-17). Besides research, he was also involved in teaching organic chemistry as adjunct faculty at University of Massachusetts, Boston. He has published his research in various reputed journals and delivered invited talks in India and abroad.

He was also awarded with the prestigious “Strada Scholarship for Emerging Leaders-2021” with 100% fee waiver and completed his MBA with specializations in Strategic Leadership, Strategic Thinking and Entrepreneurship.in 2023 from School of Business and Technology, Washington DC, USA (March, 2023).

He is an elected Fellow of Indian Chemical Society (FICS) and Chartered Chemist (CChem) and Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC), London, UK. He is also a proud member of National Network of Mathematical and Computational Biology (NNMCB) funded by Science and Engineering Research Board, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, to provide training to students in mathematical and computational biology and to promote research activities. He is selected as IoE Fellow at Delhi School of Skill Enhancement & Entrepreneurship Development (DSSEED), Institution of Eminence, University of Delhi.

Considering his contribution to teaching excellence, he received the Meritorious Teacher Award-2014, by the Directorate of Higher Education, Government of NCT of Delhi, India and INSA Teachers Award-2020 by the Indian National Science Academy, Government of India.

His research interest focuses on:
– Identification and optimization of novel inhibitors against therapeutic drug targets using in silico screening and chemical synthesis and development of comprehensive tools for the same to aid in drug discovery process.

– Design and development of natural polymer based smart self-assembled nanostructures for biomedical applications.
