Sumani Dabas

Sumani Dabas is an architect and an urban planner. Her father was a student at ITI (Industrial Training Institute) and he guided her to acquire technical knowledge to ensure a strong base for her career. She joined Diploma in Architectural Assistantship, Meerabai Institute of Technology, now known as DSEU Maharani Bagh Campus. She was offered a job during the campus placement as a Junior Architect. However, she decided to build on her knowledge and pursue higher education in the field. She completed her Bachelors in Architecture and Masters in Urban and Rural Planning. She developed interest in working not just as an architect but also as an urban planner. She has worked in varied job roles – architect, research associate in her initial career years and later worked as a Program Fellow in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

Sumani has a stronghold on the fundamental concepts that gives her the edge in multiple roles. She expressed that the knowledge acquired during the Diploma helped her during her Bachelors and Masters since she had already studied some of those subjects as well as honed her drafting,- and computer aided designing skills during the 3-year diploma. She also worked on a project to design a hospital and was awarded the “Pidilite Award for Optimum Space Utilization” for the same. Sumani has also been awarded with a gold medal at MD University during her Bachelors.

The Diploma course at DSEU will groom students by providing practical knowledge which is very important when it comes to applying their skills in their professions.
